In their ninth installment titled “APHORISM,” the dynamic duo Ev Bravado and Téla D’Amore, leading Who Decides War, embark on a journey from the bustling streets of New York City to the elegant avenues of Paris. This collection pays tribute to longevity, delving into the meticulous curation and elevation of materials, especially the brand’s denim.
Season after season, Who Decides War has introduced various constructs, each evolving into the brand’s defining ‘main characters.’ In “APHORISM,” these familiar silhouettes undergo a reimagination through novel techniques and presentations, shifting away from graphic motifs toward a more cut-and-sew approach. This shift is particularly evident in the textured arch and window placements that have become a hallmark of the brand’s aesthetic narrative. To honor their American roots, Ev Bravado and Téla D’Amore incorporate references from Americana lore into “APHORISM.”
This season, the co-founders emphasize sustainability, showcasing their commitment to crafting purposeful and integrity-laden pieces. This conscious approach serves as a counteraction to the fashion industry’s often wasteful practices, where the pursuit of filling a visual void leads to unnecessary production.
The development process for “APHORISM” involved a series of labor-intensive techniques to achieve the desired aesthetic and tactile qualities. Garments underwent a rigorous process, including cutting, sewing, distressing, dyeing, bleaching, and over-dyeing, with a significant focus on embroidery—an integral aspect of Who Decides War’s collections. Underscoring the brand’s dedication to quality, in-house fabrics were meticulously developed over extensive periods, with certain materials requiring up to forty-eight hours to produce just two yards.
