In 2025, the Air Jordan 5 celebrates its 35th anniversary, and Jordan Brand is commemorating the event by reintroducing the iconic OG “Black Metallic” colorway.
The “Black Metallic” was one of the original four color schemes of Michael Jordan’s fifth signature shoe, released back in 1990. Initially hitting the shelves in February of that year alongside the “Fire Red” iteration, it was followed by the “Grape” in the summer and an alternate “Fire Red” with a black tongue and “23” on the lateral heel in November of the same year.
The last reissue of the “Black Metallic” Jordan 5 was in 2016, making this upcoming retro nine years apart from its predecessor. The 2025 retro will inaugurate the Remastered V2 series of the Air Jordan 5, indicating that this Air Jordan 5 and subsequent releases will feature new specifications. The objective of this remastering is to replicate the shoe’s shape as closely as possible to the original 1990 version.
As reported by zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files, the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” is scheduled to drop in Spring 2025 on SNKRS and at selected retailers.
