Eminem recently teased fans with a taste of what’s to come, revealing that his twelfth album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)”, is set to drop this summer. The iconic rapper has given us a glimpse into his upcoming project with the release of his latest single, “Houdini”.

The track opens with a snippet of Eminem conversing with his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg. Rosenberg seems less than impressed with what he’s heard from the album so far, stating, “Hey Em, it’s Paul. I listened to the new album. Good luck, you’re on your own.”

In “Houdini”, Eminem references his classic 2002 single “Without Me”, rapping, “Guess who’s back, who’s back again / Shady’s back, tell a friend.” Produced by his longtime collaborator Luis Resto, “Houdini” samples lyrics from Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” and includes nods to Megan Thee Stallion and her notorious shooting incident.

The music video for “Houdini” is a direct homage to the aforementioned “Without Me”. After stepping through a mysterious portal from Eminem’s 2002 era, viewers are transported to the future. The comic book-style video features appearances from the likes of 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Alchemist, along with two versions of Eminem—his present-day self and the icon from over two decades ago.

Eminem has been relatively tight-lipped about his forthcoming album, only dropping occasional hints. Back in March, Dr. Dre hinted during Jimmy Kimmel’s show that Eminem was working on new music, with Dre himself involved in producing several tracks.

During the NFL draft in April, Eminem announced “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” with a trailer reminiscent of a crime series teaser. The clip suggested that the new album would mark the definitive end of his longtime alter ego. And just a few weeks ago, he published a fake obituary in the “Detroit Free Press”, bidding farewell to Slim Shady.

In recent days, Eminem shared a video on his Instagram profile featuring illusionist David Blaine. In the teaser for the single’s release, Eminem declared, “In the final trick, I will make my career disappear.”

Fans eagerly await the release of “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” and the continuation of Eminem’s legendary career.
