The House of Dior has a longstanding tradition of collaborating with artists, and one notable collaboration is with the artist Niki de Saint Phalle. This partnership dates back to 1954 when the feminist artist, renowned not only for her artistic prowess but also her modeling career, adorned herself in a Dior ensemble captured by Henry Clarke. Following this initial encounter, the association persisted in 1965 when Marc Bohan, the then creative director of Dior, established a distinctive creative bond with Saint Phalle, resulting in a series of collaborations that left a lasting impact.
In homage to Saint Phalle’s legacy, Maria Grazia Chiuri, the current creative force behind Dior, designed the spring-summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection featuring the artist’s work as the focal point. Today, this legacy is revitalized through a collection of clothing and accessories that revisit the visionary world of the artist for the capsule collection commemorating the Chinese New Year. Each piece serves as a canvas for Saint Phalle’s imagination, adorned with colorful motifs inspired by three of her seminal works: “Tu es mon dragon,” “Strength,” and “Foulard Zodiaque.” These designs grace Dior creations like the Lady Dior handbag, the Dior Book Tote, and opulent silk scarves. Meanwhile, an enchanting dragon motif embellishes long-sleeved t-shirts, cozy knits, and denim garments.
